1st Quarter Status Report

I don't know if anyone will ever read this, but I have some downtime before my meeting and figured just to come here and write something.  What have I been up to?

I think a pretty significant thing to talk about is what's going on with work.  People often ask me that as their first question.  Here's what's going on.  Although I enjoy my job, I do not enjoy  the slow pace of Poughkeepsie, NY.  So recently, I have looked into getting a job in Manhattan.  I have set up a meeting with B, an employee of LB that I'm friends with, this Saturday to the offer to work for their IT department.  I don't really want to do anymore technical work, I think it's time for me to move in the business direction.  So, I probably won't take the job.

As a surprising turn of events, my manager asked for room in the budget to let me take all of the Project Management courses offered by IBM to my second-line manager.  My second-line manager, who I met at church and have a lot of respect for, seems to like me and actually gave me approval to go on that track.  No one in the history of IBM has ever been on this track at the age of 23, the youngest that my manager has ever heard was a 29 year old.  This is a huge opportunity to become a project manager by the time I'm 25.  Cha ching!

Ugh...what else?

I have been watching two shows religously.  And when I say religously, I mean I have the DVDs or DIVX recordings and I watch at least an episode a day.  Those shows are 24 and Entourage. 24 is perfect for work mental preparation.  Entourage is perfect for relaxing mental preparation.  I recommend them highly, especially to guys.

I tried to snowboard a couple weeks back.  How'd it go?  It was awesome.  I suck, but it's a lot of fun.  Deffinetly going to get a season rental/lift ticket next winter.

I'm going to Italy in October.  I've already bought my tickets and plan on going with a co-worker and a friend from high school. Hopefully I can get 1 more low-maintenance, fun, and adventourous person to round out the group.

My co-worker and I have recently started a website that will remain unnamed for the time being while we go through beta-testing.  When it comes time for release I will be asking people to come try it and help it spread.

I will be in Manhattan this Saturday, Rehobath and Alexandria next weekend, and Manhattan again the following weekend.

Hope all is well with everyone and that I get at least 1 comment out of this post.

I Will Follow You Into the Dark

Is by Death Cab for Cutie.  They're a band that I heard from watching the OC.  I know it's pretty lame, but they have really good music on that show.  The OC and Hollister is where I'm getting all my rock music these days.  Anyway, if you want to try it out on guitar you should go to linky.  I like this song, but this is probably not the best stuff from them, it's just the most acoustic guitar playable song.  They're very background music to a movie trailer type of music.  Also, the lead singer for Death Cab actually is part of Postal Service who you might have heard the song "Such Great Heights" from Garden State.

Goodbye My Lover

"Goodbye My Lover" is a pretty decent song.  It kinda grows on you.  It's by James Blunt.  He's this new singer/songwriter coming out of the UK, I think.  People seem to either love or hate his voice.  He's a storyteller and I got kinda hooked on his music from the song "You're Beautiful."  At any rate, the tab I'm using right now for this song can be found here.  You need a capo to play it in the right key.

That's it.  Happy Holidays!

You know what's weird?  When I look back at college, I look at it as a care-free time.  Can you believe that?  I had my first real taste of stress in college, and now I can only remember the good times.  It's true you know?  College is the best 4 years of your life.

I haven't been back to Penn State since February when I went for Barrio.  The older I get the less likely I see myself ever coming back.  Everytime I come back it's hard because I know that it is a chapter of my life that I will never get again.  It is filled with youth and potential that is purely in my past.

But, now here I am, 22, back to being the one with all the potential.  Back to finding the people I can trust.  Back to being the idealistic one being told to do dishonest things.  I've got 15 years until I have to go back to school and get my EMBA.  I have 15 years to establish myself in the industry.  I've got 15 years to travel the world, own 3 different cars, and be in 2.4 relationships a year.

No matter all the money or  success that I achieve in the future, nothing will ever take away those 4 years of college.  The four years of my life that truly took me from a boy to a man.  My only solace, my only comfort, is knowing that the "freshmen" will be seniors next year.  Take a second and really appreciate these last few months/years.  You think you're mature now?  Be Patient.

The Rules of Wedding Crashing

Rule # 1 – Never leave a fellow Crasher behind.  Crashers take care of their own

Rule #2 – Never use your real name.

Rule #3 – Never confess.

Rule #4 – No one goes home alone.

Rule #5 – Never let a girl get between you and a fellow Crasher.

Rule # 6 – Do not sit in the corner and sulk.  It draws attention in a negative way.  Draw attention to yourself, but on your own terms.

Rule #7 – Blend in by standing out.

Rule # 8 – Be the life of the party.

Rule #9 – Whatever it takes to get in, get in.

Rule #10 – Invitations are for pussies.

Rule #11 – Sensitive is good.

Rule #12 – Of course you dream of one day having children.

Rule #13 – Bridesmaids are desperate – console them.

Rule #14 – You’re a distant relative of a dead cousin.

Rule #15 – Fight the urge to tell the truth.

Rule #16 – Always have an up-to-date family tree.

Rule #17 – Every female wedding guest deserves a wedding night.

Rule #18 – You love animals and children.

Rule # 19 – Toast in the native language if you know the native language and have practiced the toast.  Do not wing it.

Rule #20 – Always have an early “appointment” the next morning.

Rule #21 – Make sure she’s 18.

Rule #22 – You have a wedding and a reception to seal the deal. Period. No overtime.

Rule #23 – There’s nothing wrong with having seconds.  Provided there’s enough women to go around.

Rule #24 – If you get outted, leave calmly.  Do not run.

Rule #25 – You understand she heard that but that’s not what you meant.

Rule # 26 – Of course you love her.

Rule #27 – Don’t over drink. The machinery must work in order to close.

Rule #28 – Make sure there’s an open bar.

Rule #29 – Always be a team player. Everyone needs a little help now and again.

Rule #30 – You’re from out of town. ALWAYS.

Rule #31 – Girls in hats tend to be proper and rarely give it up.

Rule #32 – Don’t commit to a relative unless you’re absolutely sure that they have a pulse.

Rule #33 – Never go back to your place.

Rule #34 -. Be gone by sunrise.

Rule #35 – Breakfast is for closers.

Rule #39  - Your favorite movie is “The English Patient”.

Rule #40 - No “chicken dancing” – no exceptions.

Rule #41 - Never hit on the bride! It’s a one-way ticket to the pavement.

Rule #42 – The way to a woman’s bed is through the dance floor.

Rule #43 - Dance with old folks and the kids. The girls will think you’re “sweet.”

Rule #44 - If there is a cash bar, bring your fake war medals. You’ll never have to buy a drink.

Rule #45 – You forgot your invitation in your rush to get to the church.

Rule #46 - At the service, sit in the fifth row. It’s close enough to wedding party to seem like you’re an invited guest. Never sit in the back. The back row just smells like crashing.

Rule #47 - If two rival crashers pick the same girl, the crasher with the least seniority will respectfully yield.

Rule #48 - Always remember your fake name!

Rule #49 - The Rules of Wedding Crashing are sacred.  Don’t sully them by “improvising.”

Rule #50 – When your crash partner fails, you fail. No man is an island.

Sunday, July 10, 2005

I just got back from Amanda's Pool Party in Jericho, NY.  I'm exhausted.  But it was so worth it.  I wasn't sure if I was gonna make it at first.  I had been busy with work and I was spending Friday night visiting another friend in Connecticutt.  But, two train rides and 15 city blocks later, there I was in Hicksville.

It was nice seeing old friends again.  I always seem to forget how great everyone is and how good people can be.  As great as my new friends have been, college peeps are the best. It's just incredibly exhausting to visit all of them.

I swam a little bit and met some cool new people that I didn't know before.  It's weird though because it was good-bye to Joyce.  Lord knows if I'll ever see her again.  First Natalie and now Joyce.  Hey, that's just the way it is.  Now I know people in Fresno and Chicago.

Next week, Catskills, I hope.
